{"id":6819,"date":"2025-03-11T10:28:53","date_gmt":"2025-03-11T10:28:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.aoholdings.net\/chraj2\/?p=6819"},"modified":"2025-03-11T10:28:56","modified_gmt":"2025-03-11T10:28:56","slug":"arap-awarded-for-supporting-ghanas-anti-corruption-efforts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.aoholdings.net\/chraj2\/2025\/03\/11\/arap-awarded-for-supporting-ghanas-anti-corruption-efforts\/","title":{"rendered":"ARAP Awarded for Supporting Ghana\u2019s Anti-Corruption Efforts"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ARAP,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.arapghana.eu\/stakeholders\/fiiapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FIIAPP<\/a>&nbsp;and the EU Delegation to Ghana are proud to have received an award during the West Africa Regional Consultation of National Human Rights, held in Accra last week.<br><br>In recognition of ARAP\u2019s ongoing support to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) in promoting human rights and anti-corruption, the award was presented by CHRAJ Commissioner Joseph Whittal to our recently appointed Team Leader Ana S\u00e1nchez.<br><br>The Regional Consultation was hosted by CHRAJ over 29-31 May, in collaboration with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/pages\/home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OHCHR<\/a>), United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (<a href=\"https:\/\/unowas.unmissions.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UNOWAS<\/a>), the Economic Community of West African States (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecowas.int\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ECOWAS<\/a>) and the Network of National Human Rights Institutions (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nanhri.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NHRIs<\/a>) in West Africa.<br><br>Representatives from these Institutions met with the aim to enhance the role that NHRIs have in promoting and protecting human rights, and assess their performance concerning the \u201cPrinciples Relating to NHRIs for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/ProfessionalInterest\/Pages\/StatusOfNationalInstitutions.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Paris Principles<\/a>).<br><br>They focussed on the Sustainable Development Goals (<a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabledevelopment.un.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SGDs<\/a>), peace and security, protection of immigrants and ensuring gender perspectives are respected within the NHRIs\u00b4 work. &nbsp;It was an opportunity to review their national influence, the challenges they face, and learn from each other by sharing good practices.<br><br>NHRIs play an important role in protecting human rights, working closely with international human rights mechanisms and promoting the ratification and implementation of human rights treaties. &nbsp;They are also expected to play an important role in the implementation of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabledevelopment.un.org\/post2015\/transformingourworld\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UN Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development<\/a>&nbsp;as well as the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/au.int\/en\/agenda2063\/overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">African Agenda 2063<\/a>&nbsp;\u201cthe Africa We Want\u201d, at national level.<br><br>CHRAJ, as the NHRI to Ghana, not only used the occasion to facilitate the meaningful exchange of experiences, but included its own best practice with regards to the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP). &nbsp;The role played by ARAP in supporting Ghana\u2019s fight against corruption was consequently awarded.<br><br>Following the Consultation, CHRAJ\u2019s Commissioner Joseph Whittal was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.aoholdings.net\/chraj2s\/chrajs-commissioner-joseph-whittal-unanimously-elected-as-president-of-the-network-of-nhris-in-west-africa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">elected President&nbsp;<\/a>of the Network of National Human Rights Institutions in West Africa (NNHRIs-WA)\u2019s next term, during its Annual General Assembly held on 31 May.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ARAP,&nbsp;FIIAPP&nbsp;and the EU Delegation to Ghana are proud to have received an award during the West Africa Regional Consultation of National Human Rights, held in Accra last week.
